What is ADHD?

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects behaviour. People with ADHD may find it hard to concentrate, may seem restless or act impulsively. There are an estimated 2.6 million people in the UK with ADHD.

You don’t need a referral from your GP for your child to be assessed at HealthCare In Mind, fill in our self-referral form and our clinic staff will contact you to arrange the appointment.

Our assessment includes a comprehensive review of your child’s medical history, behaviour, communication skills, and cognitive functioning with one of our specialist assessors. For a diagnosis of ADHD, symptoms of hyperactivity/impulsivity and/or inattention should:

  • Meet diagnostic criteria of DSM V or ICD 11
  • Cause at least moderate psychological, social and/or educational impairment based on interview and/or direct observation in multiple settings.

ADHD assessments for children can be carried out via remote online appointments under the supervision of a parent or carer, which can work best for some patients. For patients and families who would prefer an in-person appointment please detail this when filling in the self-referral form and we will be in touch to discuss availability.

The process will take around 2 hours.

How much does it cost?

The cost is:

£1,335 inc. VAT

About your assessment

What happens during the assessment?

Our specialist expert clinician will spend around two hours with you and your child to learn more about them. The core assessment will include gathering psychological, developmental, social and clinical history.

Information from your child’s school will also be gathered as part of the assessment process.

Our ADHD assessment follows the guidelines outlined by the NHS and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). All our assessments are completed by qualified healthcare providers and are likely to be accepted towards an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) if needed.

You will receive a full report with our findings and recommendations within two weeks following your child’s appointment. All our assessments include a feedback session so that you can ask questions and plan for further support, if needed.

Do you think that your child could have ADHD? Fill in our self-referral form and access support immediately without waiting lists.
