What does an assessment include?

Our assessment includes a comprehensive review of your child’s medical history, behaviour, communication skills, and cognitive functioning with one of our highly skilled clinicians.

The process will take around three hours. Joint autism and ADHD assessments for children can be carried out via remote online appointments under the supervision of a parent or carer, which can work best for some patients. For patients and families who would prefer an in-person appointment please detail this when filling in our contact form and we will be in touch to discuss availability.

To be confirmed at time of booking.

About your assessment

What happens during the assessment?

Our specialist assessor will spend around three hours with you and your child to learn more about them. A detailed developmental history will be taken using the Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADR-1) tool during the assessment and an observational assessment will be carried out using an Autism Diagnostic Observation (ADOS-2).

For a diagnosis of ADHD, symptoms of hyperactivity/impulsivity and/or inattention should:

  • Meet diagnostic criteria of DSM V or ICD 11
  • Cause at least moderate psychological, social and/or educational impairment based on interview and/or direct observation in multiple settings.

Information from your child’s school will be gathered as part of the assessment process.

Our assessments follow the guidelines outlined by the NHS and NICE. All our assessments are completed by qualified healthcare providers and are likely to be accepted towards an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) if needed.

You will receive a full report with our findings and recommendations within two weeks following your child’s appointment. All our assessments include a feedback session so that you can ask questions and plan for further support, if needed.
